Several months ago I saw photos of an orphanage in Haiti where children that have been rescued from trafficking by the efforts of the company Operation Underground Railroad, can go to receive the recovery care they need. I was shocked by how little they had and by the empty courtyard they played in. I was even more shocked when I found out it was one of the best orphanages in the country! These photos made me realize how much I have and how much I take for granted. I knew then that I wanted to do something to help these kids.
Sports has always been a big part of my life and something that makes me happy so I am really excited that my project helps these kids have that same feeling. I feel strongly that by giving these kids the opportunity for simple recreation, I am helping in their recovery.
My project is to collect and assemble 10 bags filled with sports gear that the Director of Aftercare at OUR can take with her when she goes to these aftercare facilities like the one I saw in Haiti. Instead of an empty courtyard it will be a courtyard filled with fun!
